Grimsby Jazz - History
Grimsby Jazz is a not for profit organisation we promoted live performances of modern jazz from leading musicians, and supported top quality local and regional artists. We began in 2003 but became established as a monthly venue in October 2005. We started at the Stamford Cub, Clee Road from 2003 to 2012 and then moved to the Old Clee Club, Clee Crescent, Grimsby, til December 2017. Grimsby Jazz moved to Moon on the Water, 203 North Prom, Cleethorpes, DN35 8SJ, in January 2018, where it hopes to eventually find a new home as Jazz at the Moon.
Grimsby Jazz took over the running of Cleethorpes Jazz Festival in 2009 and held our last Festival in 2016. Charlotte Bowen of The Culture House took over the event in 2017 and hopefully will continue.
Grimsby Jazz have been successful with bids for funding from several sources including the Arts Council and the charity Youth Music. The Youth Music grant enabled us to provide a series of improvisation workshops for young people over a period of 18 months. Further information to be found on the Grimsby Jazz Improvisation Workshops page. Our Arts Council funding has also enabled us to work with MAPAS on further projects with the music groups. The latest funding for "A Fish Tale" project provided school workshops leading to the Singing Festival in 2017 and the UK Fish Tale Tour with the Alan Barnes Octet (see dedicated page).
